MGM’s deals with other producers could potentially become an issue for Amazon, however. ![]() In addition to the James Bond and Rocky franchises, the studio’s catalog includes films like The Silence of the Lambs and the Pink Panther and Legally Blonde series, as well as television series like The Handmaid’s Tale, The Voice and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. TangentĪmazon will still get more than 4,000 films and 17,000 television shows from MGM as part of the deal, even without the pre-1986 catalog. ![]() That’s how much Turner ended up paying for MGM’s pre-1986 library, the Los Angeles Times reported in 1986. So, believe what you want boys and girls, but I felt this was entertaining enough to share with you.WarnerMedia division Turner Classic Movies confirmed to Forbes in an email that Turner and WarnerMedia still hold the rights to MGM’s pre-May 1986 catalog, and noted the company also has a deal with MGM giving them control of many UA films through 2022. David Gilmour and Nick Mason have both denied a connection between the two works, and Roger Waters has described the rumors as “amusing”. Observers playing the film and the album simultaneously have reported apparent synchronicities, such as Dorothy beginning to jog at the lyric “no one told you when to run” during “Time”, and Dorothy balancing on a tightrope fence during the line “balanced on the biggest wave” in “Breathe”. Here’s more on the legend of the unusual relationship between “Dark Side of the Moon” and “The Wizard of Oz” from Wikipedia:ĭark Side of the Rainbow and Dark Side of Oz are two names commonly used in reference to rumors (circulated on the Internet since at least 1994) that The Dark Side of the Moon was written as a soundtrack for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. Not interesting enough to do all the work myself sometime, but still interesting. I won’t give anything away, but I did find it very interesting. ![]() The other thing I found interesting is that you CAN sit and watch the entire movie for the next hour and 45 minutes, or you can do like I did the first time and just skip ahead to see how the music and the movie sync it. I will note that they stripped out the movie soundtrack and dialogue, but you’ve probably seen “Wizard of Oz” enough times you know what the scenes are about. But thanks to the Internet, I don’t have to go to all that trouble! Someone has done all the work for us and posted it to YouTube! Some guy has produced “The Dark Side of the Rainbow” in one of the wildest mashups imaginable. Call me lazy, but while the idea intrigued me (and apparently appeals to a LOT of people who get stoned and listen to classic rock at the same time they watch old movies) I just never get around to it. So, who hasn’t heard that there’s an eerie coincident between the 1939 classic film “The Wizard of Oz” and Pink Floyd’s classic album “Dark Side of the Moon?” That if you start the album at just the right place all sorts of movie scenes and musical cues line up?Īnd yet, like many of you, I’ve been too lazy to actually get a copy of both productions at the same time and test it out for myself. ![]()
